EV charging is already part of how guests choose accommodation

Major booking sites already let travellers filter accommodation by EV charging availability. For EV drivers, that means charging can influence where they stay before they compare rooms, price, or location.

Destination Charge helps motels respond with practical overnight charging and, with the site’s permission, can help make the location visible to EV drivers on PlugShare.

We have EV charging stations in over 1,800 of our hotels across the globe, and it’s the number one highest conversion amenity on Hilton.com.
Jean Garris Hand, Global Head of Sustainability, Hilton, quoted by Skift, July 2025

EV charging is already searchable

Travellers can actively filter for properties that offer EV charging on major booking sites, including Booking.com, Hotels.com, and Expedia.

With your permission, Destination Charge can also help list your charging location on PlugShare, helping EV drivers find your motel when planning their trip and putting you on the shortlist of places to stay.

Overnight charging is a natural fit for motels

Many EV guests do not need a rapid charger while they sleep.

EV guests already park overnight

Slow overnight charging matches the natural stay.

Fast chargers are not always convenient

A public charger can mean a detour, waiting, or an extra stop.

Charging can influence booking choice

If two motels are similar, guest charging can help your property stand out.

The benefits of EV charging for your motel

Destination Charge is designed to make guest EV charging practical for accommodation providers, without turning it into another system for staff to manage.

Simple to set up, simple to run

Destination Charge is designed for overnight guest parking, not expensive fast charging — which means installation is lightweight and the ongoing system runs itself. Most motels start with one or two spaces and expand later if demand grows. The process from first conversation to live charging typically takes a matter of weeks.

We recommend outlet locations

Guests start from the outlet QR code. Destination Charge tracks the session, payment flow and electricity reimbursement calculation.

What Destination Charge provides, and what your motel provides

The split is simple: Destination Charge provides the managed charging system, while the motel provides the parking location, access to power and licensed electrician installation.

What Destination Charge provides

  • Smart charging outlet hardware
  • Weatherproof outlet enclosure
  • Destination Charge signage
  • QR code charging flow
  • Usage tracking
  • Driver payment flow
  • Charging session records
  • Guest support process
  • Electricity reimbursement
  • Listing and promotion support

What your motel provides

  • A suitable parking space or spaces
  • Access to power
  • Licensed electrician installation cost
  • WiFi coverage near the outlet
  • Occasional access if support or replacement is required
  • A stable WiFi signal is preferred at the parking space. If outdoor coverage is weak, a simple outdoor access point or WiFi extender may solve it. We can discuss this during the site review.

Common motel questions

Straight answers for motel owners comparing managed overnight charging with conventional EV charger installs.

Who pays for the electricity guests use?

Charging sessions are tracked so guest charging electricity can be calculated for reimbursement under the agreed terms. This means the motel is not left guessing what guest charging has added to the power bill.

Do our staff need to manage charging?

No. Guests start from the outlet QR code and follow the Destination Charge charging flow. The system is designed so motel staff do not need to manage payments or charging sessions.

What if the WiFi signal does not reach the parking space?

A stable WiFi signal is preferred where the outlet is installed. If outdoor coverage is weak, a simple outdoor WiFi extender or access point may solve it. We can discuss this during the site review.

Do we need to install expensive fast chargers?

No. Destination Charge is designed for practical overnight charging while guests are already parked. Most EV guests staying overnight do not need a rapid charger at the motel.

Can we start with only one or two outlets?

Yes. Many motels can start with one or two guest charging spaces and expand later if demand grows.

Who installs the outlet?

Installation must be completed by a licensed electrician. Destination Charge supplies the charging hardware and can advise on suitable outlet locations and requirements.

What affects the final installation cost, and who owns the hardware?

Actual install cost depends on cable route, distance to power, switchboard access, mounting location, weather exposure, outlet count, and licensed electrician requirements. Destination Charge provides and retains ownership of the managed outlet hardware. The installation remains an improvement to the site's electrical infrastructure. Read more about Installation & Safety.

Who handles guest charging support?

Destination Charge provides the charging flow and support process. Motel staff should not need to troubleshoot normal charging sessions.

What if a guest damages the outlet?

Damage is uncommon with simple fixed outlets, but any damage or replacement process should be handled under the host agreement. We can explain this clearly before installation.

What if there is a dispute over a charging fee?

Destination Charge records charging session details so the session can be reviewed. The payment and support process is designed to avoid motel staff needing to resolve charging fee disputes directly.

Will our motel be promoted to EV drivers?

Destination Charge can help make participating locations visible to EV drivers through our own platform and, where appropriate, by helping with listing or promotion on EV charging directories such as PlugShare.
